Phoenix Veterans Day Parade Essay Contest Closes Sept. 30, 2016
Theme “Welcome Home Vietnam Heroes” as Parade honors Vietnam Veterans

PHOENIX, AZ –   Educating our youth about the sacrifices and service our military Veterans provide is a part of the mission of the Phoenix Veterans Day Parade.  So, the non-profit parade organizers  Honoring America’s’s Veterans, will once again host the Phoenix Veterans Day Parade Essay Contest as part of the education effort. Cash and other prizes will be awarded to the winners.

Essay guidelines:

  • Open to all students in grades 9-12 in Maricopa County of high school havs-phoenix-veterans-day-paradeage
  • Theme Focus: Welcome Home Vietnam Heroes
  • Essays are to be 500 words or less
  • Essays are to be typed or neatly printed
  • In submission at the top of the essay please include:
    • Student’s name
    • Age
    • Grade
    • Student’s or parents email and phone
    • Teacher’s name and class
    • School name
    • School address, and phone number
    • If home schooled, students need to provide contact information
  • Judging Criteria: Creative writing, Grammar, Originality, Content, Theme Focus: Welcome Home Vietnam Heroes
  • Deadline: September 30, 2016

Winners will receive:

  • Cash prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, sponsored by Durant’s Restaurant
  • Ride in the parade and receive commemorative Parade Items
  • Winning Essays printed in parade program
  • Group photos electronically

As one of the leading Veterans Day events in the nation, the organizers Honoring America’s’s Veterans have chosen national news correspondent Pete Hegseth as their Celebrity Grand Marshal.

The Phoenix Veterans Day Parade route runs southbound on Central Avenue starting at Montebello, turns east onto Camelback Road and then south on 7th Street, ending at Indian School Road.

The Phoenix Veterans Day Parade commemorates and honors our veterans, and educates Americans about the service and sacrifices our veterans have made to protect our freedoms.  This year the Parade has earned designation from the Department of Veterans Affairs as one of its Regional Sites for Veterans Day activities.

TriWest Healthcare Alliance holds the top spot as a sponsor of this event.  Other sponsors include APS, General Dynamics, Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station, and KTAR.
